A voicemail left for the staff of FloridaPolitics.com is from a Central Florida woman asking for guidance on how she might vote for Republican U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster for Speaker of the Florida House.
Here is the message transcribed:
“This is Donna Bartlett calling. My phone number is 407-497-4591. I’m looking online trying to find out how I can vote for Dan Webster for speaker the house. I can’t find a place. My email is small letters D for Donna B for Bartlett. Number is [email protected]. If someone could just email me how to vote or who to call to put my vote and I know it’s getting down to the last straw and I’d like to have my name heard. I appreciate it. Thank you very much.”
Unfortunately for Ms. Bartlett, only members of the U.S. House of Representatives can vote on who will lead that body.
Webster announced last week that he would attempt to succeed John Boehner, who is stepping down at the end of October.
“I will be running for speaker of the House. My goal is for the House of Representatives to be based on principle, not on power, where every member of Congress is involved in the process,” Webster, a former Florida House speaker from the Orlando region, said in a post on his Facebook page.
As for Bartlett, the staff of FloridaPolitics.com has not decided whether to return her call and put a damper on her enthusiasm for the democratic process. Something tells us she might just be better off not knowing the truth.
Regardless, Congressman Webster should take comfort knowing that at least one other person (other than his colleague Rich Nugent) would like to see him in the Speaker’s chair.
