UberPitch offers Tampa Bay entrepreneurs on-demand venture capitalists

Uber is giving potential Tampa Bay startups a shot at 15 minutes of fame, by providing on-demand face time with a venture capitalist.

On Friday, select users can get the undivided attention of a potential investor – just enough time for the ultimate “elevator pitch.”

UberPitch, a joint promotion with Florida Funders, will offer rides between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for individuals who successfully complete a request in the TBPITCH option in the Uber app.

They will then get a quarter hour to close the deal with a financier already in the car.

After the 15 minutes, riders will return to the original pickup location; the trip is available at no charge.

“A partnership with Uber is a perfect match for Florida Funders,” says Florida Funders CEO Dave Chitester. “They are using technology to disrupt the traditional transportation industry just as we are using technology to disrupt the traditional investing industry. UberPitch gives entrepreneurs and investors both an opportunity to try out Uber if they have not yet signed up and who knows, maybe we will find the next big startup right here in the Tampa Bay area.”

To participate, existing Uber customers can open the app, tap the Profile icon in the top left corner, and tap Promotions; then enter promotion code TBPITCH.

As with many Uber promotions, demand is expected to be very high, so those wanting to take part are asked to keep checking the app for the next available TBPITCH vehicle.

New users can just download the app on iOS or Android, and sign up for an Uber account, entering the promo code TAMPABAYTECH before requesting a ride with a possible investor.

Seeking a ride with the “TBPITCH” promotion will only be on Friday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., just enough time to make it big with the next great idea.
