Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Jim Norman began his return to public office in September with solid fundraising.
On Friday, Norman’s campaign announced raising $84,000 for his inaugural month.
“When we started this campaign, we reached out immediately to close friends and family for support,” Norman said in a prepared statement. “I’m incredibly humbled by the level of support we’ve received and just how passionate people are about bringing effective leadership to the County Commission”
Norman said he was “humbled” by the successful first month, particularly since there has been no kickoff event or big fundraisers. Donations came just by reaching out to friends and family.
“We have a tremendous amount of support from throughout every part of Hillsborough County and I’m excited about the campaign ahead,” he said.
On Sept. 1, Norman filed to run for the District 6 countywide seat as a Republican to replace term-limited Democrat Kevin Beckner. He faces political novice Thomas Avino and Tim Schock, president of Lightning Capital Consulting.
As for Democrats, former Hillsborough County Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Kemp, former Hillsborough County Commissioner and Tampa City Council member Tom Scott, and community activist Brian Willis have each filed for the race.
