The decadent 10-day Fantasy Fest concludes this weekend in Key West, capped by a Halloween parade expected to attract more than 60,000 spectators.
Thousands of costumed revelers promenaded through the island’s historic district during Friday’s Masquerade March that began at a cemetery. Standouts included a group of white-faced “walking dead” in sombreros.
Others wore costumes inspired by the Fantasy Fest theme, “All Hallows Intergalactic Freak Show,” including a troupe of extraterrestrial creatures with waving silver tentacles, a green-faced alien clown on stilts and a towering space monster carrying a caged captive.
The festival schedule featured more than 50 events, including the exotic Headdress Ball, a costume competition for pets, street fairs and themed parties. Events end Sunday with a children’s carnival and afternoon dance party.
Tourism officials say Fantasy Fest contributes some $30 million in annual revenue to the Florida Keys.
