Email insights: Community, opportunity are why Randy Perkins is running for Congress

Randy Perkins

Self-made entrepreneur Randy Perkins believes stories like his simply aren’t possible anymore.

That’s why he is running for Congress: to give back to the community so that others can have the same opportunities for success – with hard work and determination.

As founder and CEO of AshBritt Inc., one of the largest disaster management companies in the country, Perkins certainly knows of which he speaks.

In a new email to supporters, Perkins explains why he’s running for Florida’s 18th Congressional District, the Palm Beach/Treasure Coast seat now held by U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, who is leaving to run for the U.S. Senate.

For Perkins, the reasons are clear, and as personal as his own story:

“When I was 19 years old, I had to drop out of college and start working nights on a loading dock to support my wife and infant daughter,” he writes. “For years, I worked all night on the docks, then spent my days building a one-person landscaping business into a large, regional lawn maintenance company. Then, in 1992, Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida with Category 5 winds, and my company evolved to serve the needs of the affected communities and help them clear away the damage left by the storm.

“The core reason I’m running for Congress is that I don’t believe that my success story is possible anymore. Small businesses simply aren’t being afforded the same opportunities to grow and create jobs that I was given as a young man.

“And that’s just wrong!”

Entering the race as a Democrat, Perkins believes in the shared values of improved education, addressing health care issues such as mental health and addiction, improving our educational system and keeping promises to seniors and veterans by protecting Social Security and reforming the Veterans Affairs system.

With an increasingly crowded field, including eight Republicans and four other Democrats, Perkins will undoubtedly face challenges on his path to Capitol Hill. But it’s not like he hasn’t been tested before.

As someone who built achievement from the ground up, and possessing the resolve to make it so others can enjoy similar chances for success, Perkins’ campaign could prove no less than a game-changer, for the race and the people he seeks to represent.
