Florida job demand in November at 10-year high, led by Tampa Bay

Gov. Rick Scott touted new data released by an online job listing tracker Thursday that shows Florida had about 300,000 job openings in November.

According to Help Wanted OnLine’s data, the state had 299,530 job openings listed online last month, an increase of 19,272 listings over October numbers. The figure includes the number of first-time job listings each month as well as the carryover listings from October.

Scott used the record month, as well as recent private sector job-growth figures, to push his tax cut and economic incentive priorities, which he said would “help small businesses and diversify our economy in order to grow even more jobs.”

“Another month, another record for Florida’s resurgent economy, with job openings at an all-time high,” said Department of Economic Opportunity head Jesse Panuccio. “Businesses in Florida are growing, families are back to work, and it’s a great time to be living and working in the Sunshine State.”

The most in-demand wanted occupation among the listings was registered nurses, which accounted 16,767 listings last month. Retail sales and heavy equipment operators followed, with 9,706 and 8,436 listings, respectively.

The data also showed most listings were in the state’s largest metros. Tampa led all Florida cities with 26,860 listings last month, closely followed by Miami at 26,846. Orlando had 25,190 listings, Jacksonville had 17,659 and Fort Lauderdale came in at 10,841.
