Gov. Scott, Cabinet presented Florida-grown Christmas tree, thanks to Adam Putnam

The Florida Cabinet continued what it called a “long-standing tradition” Tuesday morning when Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam presented a Florida-grown Christmas tree to his executive branch colleagues.

The tree, a Leland Cypress grown in the Jackson County city of Sneads, was bestowed by Putnam on Gov. Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and CFO Jeff Atwater, who were there along with a group of elementary school students who made a field trip on the occasion.

Putnam said that of the 30 million Christmas trees that will be bought this holiday season, about 16,000 were grown in Florida.

He called his home state’s tree farming industry “small, but proud.”

“We’re proud to bring light to a world that has seen so much darkness lately,” said Putnam, before handing ornaments to the governor and First Lady Ann Scott to inaugurate the holiday season.

Scott, in character as always as a booster for Florida industry, said he hopes that someday all Christmas trees will be grown in the Sunshine State.
