Angela Corey nears $250K raised for re-election bid

Angela Corey

Another strong fundraising month for 4th Circuit State Attorney Angela Corey brings her fundraising total up over $244,000, with a $17,291 November.

About $11,000 of it came in the form of 11 maximum contributions on Nov. 27, from companies at one Deerwood Park address that have a common thread of a Sleiman family connection.

Corey spent just over $7,000 in November: The most interesting expenditure was $3,357.64 for “campaign shirts” to the Fraternal Order of Police.

All told, Corey has spent just shy of $32,000 in the campaign.

Unlike in October, when Corey spent $5,000 on “campaign strategy/research/polling,” the State Attorney’s campaign made no such November expenditure.

A tactic that was different in November, perhaps in response to negatives in the polling such as extended counternarratives posted to Corey’s campaign Facebook page, with phrasings similar to this:

“FOR THE RECORD: There are quite a few myths and mistruths out there about our State Attorney’s Office, about Angela Corey, and about this campaign. We will be providing the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in an effort to dispel such fabrications.”

Meanwhile, the campaign of her Republican primary opponent, Wes White, continues to have financial difficulty, and is being kept afloat by a $10,000 personal loan.

White raised just $2,500 in November, bringing his total raised up to $25,825; his operation has spent $29,251, including $5,805 in November.

The interesting November expense for White: $1,397 to the McCormick Agency for a “robocall service fee.”

Paul McCormick also got another $1,425 from White: $175 for polling services, and $1,250 for political consulting.

White’s operation will have to have an infusion of cash soon, as its overhead is consistent, and going negative on Corey seems to be the linchpin of his team’s strategy.
