Email insights: Jax Coalition for Equality asks supporters to email City Council in support of the HRO

In an e-blast to supporters and media outlets, the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality is urging supporters to email City Council members and “urge them to pass this important legislation.”

“Equally important, we need to make it clear to Council members that we oppose any attempt to put these basic protections on the ballot,” the message continues (bold letters theirs).

Dueling pieces of legislation are before the council: One would let voters decide whether to expand the city’s human rights ordinance to cover LGBT residents, one would expand the protections legislatively.

The next City Council meeting, set for Jan. 12, likely will be well-attended.

Meanwhile, after leading three town hall meetings on the topic there’s still no indication of where   Mayor Lenny Curry stands on the hot topic, now getting national attention after Houston’s “HERO” defeat.
