Two of the most powerful (and quotable) people on Jacksonville’s City Council, Finance Chairman Bill Gulliford and John Crescimbeni, met Monday afternoon to talk about Council leadership, specifically the latter’s VP bid.
Crescimbeni, one of seven Council Democrats, is seeking the City Council vice presidency later this year, along with at least one other candidate (Rules Chairman Matt Schellenberg).
In a brief meeting, Gulliford affirmed his support for Crescimbeni, signing a letter to that effect.
Gulliford observed that he’d made a “moral commitment” some months back to Crescimbeni to support him.
“We may not always stay in the same boundaries,” Gulliford said, but, “I respect you greatly.”
Gulliford sees it as a “nonpartisan” move, and Crescimbeni, one of the primary fiscal watchdogs on Council, will benefit from his support.
Schellenberg has meetings along these lines with Sam Newby this week, Anna Brosche and current Vice President Lori Boyer this month.
So this isn’t over.
Though rumor was that Crescimbeni had a number of oral commitments, he downplayed that when asked.
