Florida’s foremost business trade group congratulated Gov. Rick Scott for his sixth State of the State address, and reaffirmed its support for the governor in the just-opened 2016 Legislative Session.
Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) President and CEO Tom Feeney released this statement:
“AIF applauds Governor Scott on his State of the State address, and congratulates him on all he has been able to accomplish for the great State of Florida in terms of fostering a business-friendly environment.
“Growing our job base, cutting taxes, decreasing red tape and diversifying our economy are just some of the accomplishments that have led to Florida being one of the best places in the nation to do business.
“We look forward to continuing to work together toward growing business in Florida in 2016.”
During his speech, Scott called for legislators to get behind his proposed $1 billion in tax cuts, as well as the $250 million for a dedicated account for use by Enterprise Florida to attract more jobs to the Sunshine State.
A major beneficiary of those proposed changes are manufacturers and retailers, whose bottom lines would be significantly bolstered by a repeal of a tax on manufacturing and commercial leases, respectively. Both sectors are major constituents of AIF, as well as the object of much of Scott’s focus.
