One of Monday’s stories: UK parliamentarians debating a possible Donald Trump ban from the UK. Not worried: Susie Wiles, his Florida campaign co-chairman.
Wiles, who notes that the effort is led by a member of the Labour Party, asserted in a statement that this controversy, as happens during campaign season, is overblown.
“As has happened so often during this campaign season (and others, too, in fairness) mainstream media is operating in soundbites with very little nuance or providing of context. Someone like Mr. Trump is easy prey since he gives little nuance when he speaks,” Wiles said.
Trump’s lack of nuance leads to misunderstandings, Wiles continues, such as a misrepresentation of what he advocated.
“In the case of banning Muslims, which is what the UK is railing against, Mr. Trump clearly stated that this suggestion was temporary and necessary because the United States’ policies on immigration have failed. The temporary nature of this – until we fix the problem – gets lost in reporting and I suspect this has occurred where the signers of the ban petition are concerned. Or, maybe they just don’t like him,” Wiles said.
Whatever controversy exists will be transitory, Wiles continues.
“When he is president, I’m certain he will work through this” Wiles said. “Britain is our closest ally and this international relationship is important. There will be many challenges and this is an important one: Donald Trump is up to it!”
Her comments echo ones Wiles made in a conversation last month, in which she asserted that the stateside press had overblown Trump’s comments.
