The last round of Lenny Curry’s Community Conversations, on Human Rights Ordinance expansion, were contentious and ultimately led to little in the way of policy outcome.
Thursday’s Community Conversation, revolving around the issue of youth violence as it relates to the Jacksonville Journey, will undoubtedly bring forth more consensus.
“The first of this series, “Our Future: Addressing Youth Violence in our Community,” will feature panelists Sheriff Mike Williams (Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office), Superintendent Nikolai Vitti (Duval County Public Schools), State Attorney Angela Corey (4th Judicial Court) and Officer Deon Johnson (JSO Department of Corrections). W.C. Gentry, chairman of the Jax Journey Board, will serve as moderator,” the release from the mayor’s office says.
“With the recent relaunch of Jax Journey, an initiative focused on creating safer communities by supporting programs that enhance crime prevention and intervention efforts, Mayor Curry is seeking to engage citizens and leaders who share his commitment in a discussion on how to create brighter futures for youth,” the release continues.
The event is 6 p.m. Thursday at the FSCJ North Campus, 4501 Capper Road, auditorium C126.
