Texas paper endorses Jeb Bush as “obvious choice for constructive conservatives”

Jeb Bush

Ahead of the March 1 primary, Jeb Bush was endorsed as the “obvious pick for constructive conservatives” via the San Antonio Express-News on Friday.

The caveats point to his campaign problems thus far: “not the flashiest candidate” and “lacking the mischievous charm” of Bush 43.

The other guys have more caveats though.

Donald Trump? A no-go. “Trump’s crude, erratic personality is a poor fit for the White House,” contends the editorial.

Ted Cruz? Well, “the freshman senator has demonstrated a frightening willingness to push the American economy to the brink of disaster to pursue his ideological agenda.”

“Bush’s combination of credentials and sober problem-solving leadership makes him the right candidate for the Republican presidential nomination,” says the Express-News.

One wonders if he would trade those characteristics for a little bit of that spark that animated his brother 16 years ago.
