Postcards from South Carolina: Jeb Bush calls it wrong that left says people of faith are intolerant

During an appearance in South Carolina, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush blasted the left for what he considers “intolerance” toward people of faith.

Bush, the former Florida governor, was speaking to an audience at the Faith and Family Presidential Forum Feb. 12 at Bob Jones University in Greenville.

“The idea that you’re a Christian, or a person of faith and other religions that somehow you’re just intolerant – that’s a general kind of way in the left that they view it – it’s just wrong,” Bush said. “I think the president needs to set the stage to across-the-board try to find unity of purpose again in this country.”

Bush then praised President Barack Obama for being a “gifted” orator, saying he is someone who can play a Teleprompter “like a Stradivarius violin.”

“But he uses that talent to push people down to make himself look better,” he said. “And frankly, we have a front-running candidate for president that does the exact same thing,” a jab at fellow candidate Donald Trump, a comment met with applause from the crowd.

Bush vowed to do two things on Day 1 of his presidency: not to blame his predecessor for any of the problems he inherited, and not to push other people down to “make myself look big and strong.”
