House District 118 got its first GOP filer since incumbent Republican Rep. Frank Artiles announced this month that he would run for a state Senate seat.
Florida Advanced Properties head Anthony Rodriguez entered the race on Feb. 10, joining Democrat Robert Asencio and no-party candidate Arthur Sosa in the now three-way race.
HD 118 leans toward GOP candidates, with about 4,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats residing in the Miami-Dade County district.
Artiles had little trouble holding the seat through his two elections after redistricting, most recently defeating Democrat Omar Rivero with 58 percent of the vote in 2014.
Rodriguez won’t have a lot of catching up to do, moneywise.
Asencio has been able to raise $18,410 since filing for the seat in March 2015 but has spent more than $10,000 so far, leaving him with about $8,400 on hand in his campaign account.
Sosa, who is part of the VoteFamily group of NPA candidates running in several legislative races, has yet to post any contributions.
