Roger Gannam celebrates “temporary victory” on HRO

Gannam

On the Florida Baptist Witness websiteRoger Gannam of the Liberty Counsel said that while he was “pleased” that Tommy Hazouri would withdraw his bill to expand Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance, the fight is not over.

“We are pleased that our efforts have shown that the city council can’t pass this bill right now,” Gannam said to the Florida Baptist Witness site. “Nothing factually has changed since 2012 when it was defeated, and we don’t think they can make a case that this bill is needed now.”

“We will continue to educate and put forth the facts to show city government that this bill should not be brought up again,” he said, while cautioning that the delay in moving forward is but a “temporary victory” since Hazouri, and others, intend to bring the bill back up… perhaps as soon as the middle of May, when the deadline to submit signatures for an anti-HRO referendum will have elapsed.
