Brett Doster, loyalest of loyal Bush backers, aids Rubio via last-minute Super PAC

Marco Rubio’s barnstorming efforts across Florida over the past week may pay dividends in tonight’s presidential primary, but there is not a single poll that shows him beating front-runner Donald Trump, or even getting within the margin of error.

Trump has actually expanded his lead over Rubio in Florida, a Monmouth University poll out Monday shows. Trump is at 44 percent, and Rubio is at 27 percent.

Those dismal figures come despite the fact that the Florida senator has been boosted by over half a million dollars in spending by a super PAC backing Rubio’s efforts over the past two weeks.

American Opportunity PAC has spent $517, 674 on television ads, voter contact and other expenses, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The Super PAC’s treasurer is Tampa’s Nancy Watkins, and was created in September of 2013.

Among the vendors that have done work for the super PAC include Meteoric Media Strategies, Data Targeting Research and Front Line Strategies, which is headed by Brett Doster, one of Jeb Bush’s most loyal supporters. Doster served as Bush’s field director in the South Carolina primary.

Although Bush met with Rubio, Ted Cruz and John Kasich last week in Miami, he opted not to endorse any in today’s primary.
