As elections officials across the state are focused on Election Day, Gov. Rick Scott is tasked with pondering giving them a pay raise.
The Legislature on Tuesday sent Scott more than a dozen bills, including a proposal that would increase the base salaries of the state’s 67 county elections chiefs. The bill (SB 514) puts elections supervisors in line with the base salaries used for elected clerks and comptrollers, property appraisers and tax collectors.
Sen. Garrett Richter and Rep. Frank Artiles, both Republicans, sponsored the bill.
House and Senate leaders also sent the governor a bill (SB 708) that authorizes the Department of State to reimburse the next of kin for up to $7,500 for expenses for each child’s remains recovered from the Arthur G. Dozier School for the Boys by the University of South Florida.
The bill, sponsored by Democrats Sen. Arthenia Joyner and Rep. Ed Narain, also calls on the Department of State to form a task force and look into creating and maintaining a memorial and internment site for unidentified remains.

- SB 592 — Relating to Public Records/Department of Financial Services/Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics
- SB 626 — Relating to Consumer Credit
- SB 628 — Relating to fees for records
- SB 752 — Relating to Public Records/Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Criminal or Civil Intelligence or Investigative Information
- SB 772 — Relating to Regulated Service Providers
- SB 908 — Relating to organization of the Department of Financial Services
The governor has until March 30 to act on the bills.
