Planned Parenthood supporters are calling on Gov. Rick Scott to veto a bill that could restrict access to reproductive health care.
The organization plans to deliver more than 12,000 petitions opposing the bill (HB 1411) to Scott on Thursday.
Among other things, the bill requires the Agency for Health Care Administration to perform annual inspections of abortion clinics; prohibits public funding for clinics affiliated with a licensed abortion clinic; and requires physicians who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at the local hospital.
“The politicians behind this bill claim the restrictions are intended to improve women’s health, but the reality is that they will do just the opposite,” said Laura Goodhue, executive director of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates. “We call on Gov. Scott to veto this shameful bill that will result in real costs when it comes to the health and well-being of Floridians.”
Planned Parenthood volunteers are expected to deliver 12,000 petitions to the governor at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The Legislature sent the bill to Scott on March 11. The governor has until March 26 to act on the measure.
