Interim Jacksonville Police and Fire Pension Fund Executive Director Beth McCague said when she took the job that she didn’t want to be there indefinitely. A year was the longest commitment that she wanted to offer. And she may be done sooner than that.
An internal email from McCague to Chief Administrative Officer Sam Mousa notes that the “search firm we have hired to find a permanent director for the Fund tells us to be prepared to interview finalists the first week of May. With luck one of those candidates will be the perfect fit and the Board will make a decision to hire.”
McCague wanted to ensure that the PFPF director will have “access to benefits other than salary and pension (which will be a defined contribution plan). While John [Keane] was ED he had access to all health, dental, vision, life insurance benefits as a retiree. The new ED will need similar benefits.”
McCague has served an important transitional function in recent months for the Police and Fire Pension Fund, dealing with occasionally difficult interactions with City Council. Undoubtedly her advice to her successor will include negotiating that rocky relationship.
