A political committee formed to help Republican state Senate candidates raised more than $1 million in the first three months of 2016.

State records show the Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $1.05 million in the first quarter. The committee is led by Senate President Joe Negron and was set up by Senate leaders to raise money for state Senate races.

The Treasure Coast Alliance, Negron’s own political committee, donated $85,000 to the Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. The committee made two contributions — a $25,000 donation and a $60,000 donation — on Jan. 8, according to state records.

Other top donations included $75,000 from Duke Energy, $50,000 from Paul Tudor Jones; $50,000 from the GEO Group and $30,000 from Humana.

The group received $25,000 donations from Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley; Arda-Resort Owners Coalition; Centene Management Company, LLC; Heritage Insurance Holdings, Inc.; Comprehensive Health Management, Inc.; Realtors Political Advocacy Committee; FCCI Services, Inc.; Republican Party of Florida; Florida CUPAC; Florida Fire PAC; Florida Hospital Association PC for Healthy Communities; and Florida Medical Association PAC.

The group spent $733,289 in the first three months of 2016. POLITICO Florida reported that sum included more than $107,000 for legal expenses and more than $153,000 to Data Targeting for consulting work.

The Florida Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee has raised more than $11.4 million since October 2014. The committee has spent more than $3.4 million in the same time frame. It has more than $7.9 million cash on hand.
