LIZBETH BENACQUISTO

Lizbeth Benacquisto has received enough signatures to qualify for re-election.

The Fort Myers Republican announced she has received more than 4,000 signatures from Lee County residents to qualify by petition in Senate District 27. Benacquisto needed a minimum of 1,552 signatures to qualify.

“I am overwhelmed by this showing of support from thousands of conservatives in our community,” said Benacquisto in a statement Friday. “This shows that our constituents believe in our commitment to cut government waste, improve water quality and lower taxes to help businesses thrive. I am grateful for those who put their name next to mine each day as we continue to work to keep Southwest Florida the very best place to live, work and raise a family.”

The qualifying period for state House and Senate is from noon on June 20 until noon on June 24.

Benacquisto was first elected in 2010. If re-elected this year, Benacquisto will serve a four year term.
