Jacksonville State Rep. Lake Ray announced Monday his intention to form an exploratory committee to run in CD 4 to replace fellow Republican Ander Crenshaw.
“After much consideration and discussion with friends and family,” Ray wrote on Facebook Monday, “I have decided to open an exploratory committee to look into running for Congressman Ander Crenshaw’s soon-to-be vacant seat.”
“As you know,” Ray added, “the halls of Congress are no place to learn on the job and we need an experienced legislator with a proven track record to represent Northeast Florida.”
“This is not an easy decision,” Ray added.
Ray is the second prospective plausible candidate to indicate interest in the race. Former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford announced Friday he was in.
Ray, a state representative for eight years and a former two-term member of Jacksonville’s City Council, is chairman of the Duval County GOP and head of the powerful First Coast Manufacturers Association.
