Walter Graham has been tapped to head up the newly created Division of Unclaimed Property.
Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced Tuesday that he has appointed Graham, the longtime unclaimed property administrator, as the director of the newly created division. Graham has led the department’s unclaimed property program for more than a decade.
In a statement, Atwater said Graham has “dedicated his career to improving Florida’s unclaimed property program.” He said Graham and his team have returned record amounts of money back to consumers each year.
“A seasoned leader in the industry, we are grateful for Walter’s outstanding contributions to our unclaimed property program and look forward to what he will continue to accomplish in this new role,” said Atwater.
During his time as the administrator of the unclaimed property program, Graham oversaw the payment of more than 3.7 million claims, worth about $2.4 billion. In February, the Bureau of Unclaimed Property returned $32 million, a one-month record.
