CD-7 Rep. John Mica appears likely to sail toward re-election, but in Washington, D.C., the North-Central Florida Republican is less popular.
The Washington City Paper took issue with Mica last week, calling him a “District-bashing Congressman [who] doesn’t pay his own taxes on time,” a response to Mica’s opposition to federal funding for its faltering Metro system.
“District tax records,” claims the City Paper’s “Loose Lips” feature, “reveal that Mica isn’t so fiscally responsible when it comes to his own share of the city’s tax money.”
“Between them,” continues the report, “Mica and his wife Patricia Mica own six units on Capitol Hill, according to Office of Tax and Revenue records. Between 2006 and 2013, they’ve racked up $1,071.81 across 17 penalty payments for paying their property taxes late. In 2006 alone, the Micas were hit with $608.29 in combined late penalties. Mica didn’t respond to requests for comment.”
Mica, observes the City Paper, not only opposes statehood for D.C., but believes parcels of it should be ceded to Maryland. He also opposes the District’s moves toward cannabis decriminalization.

Yes, how dare he rack up an average of $63/year in late fees. What’s next? Did he pay the extra $2 to renew his drivers license with a credit card? In what world is this newsworthy…….or even negative!?
