Lenny Curry to meet with federal officials Wednesday about HUD properties

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry will be in Washington DC this afternoon, meeting with HUD Secretary Julian Castro and Sen. Marco Rubio in separate meetings.

Castro is on Curry’s schedule at 1:30, and Rubio at 4. Expected topics: Global Ministries Foundation properties, including Washington Heights and Eureka Garden.

Rubio has called attention to the issue on the Senate floor this month, issuing a floor speech in which he mentioned Eureka Garden’s tenants and Curry by name.

Rubio clearly wanted the Curry administration to notice his efforts, as multiple emails went through to senior staff in the Curry administration from the Rubio office.

Some cynics will point out that Curry missed his best chance for a direct audience with the Barack Obama administration, by fishing in the Atlantic Ocean when President Obama was in town.

Nonetheless, Curry is attempting to leverage executive and legislative branch assets in his trip to Washington on Wednesday.
