HD 60 Democratic candidate David Singer raises over $47K in first month of fundraising

Democrat David Singer announced Thursday he has raised over $47,000 since declaring his candidacy for the Hillsborough County area House District 60 seat.

“I am so proud to have earned the trust and tremendous support from a diverse group of people, including Democrats, Independents and Republicans, young and old, businesses and families,” Singer said in a statement. “Our inclusive message of investing in education and infrastructure is resonating in our community. People are responding to the idea that thoughtful leadership in Tallahassee, focused on meaningful investments in our future, will benefit our neighborhoods, our city and our state.”

HD 60 is a seat that has been the domain of Tampa Republican Dana Young the past six years, but she has already declared her candidacy for the state Senate District 18 seat newly created in the aftermath of redistricting all 40 senate seats in the Legislature that was made official back in January.

Singer is the only Democrat to declare to date in the race;  Jackie Toledo and Rebecca Smith are competing on the GOP side.

Neither has yet to declare fundraising totals (they’re due next week), but Smith raised over $81,000 in her first month as a candidate in March, while Toledo has raised more than $50,000 since starting to fundraise in January.

Singer is a Tampa-based land use attorney who was involved in the Go Hillsborough transit tax campaign back in 2010. Like Smith, this is his first run for office. Toledo came up short in her bid for a Tampa City Council seat in 2015.

HD 60 includes all of South Tampa, much of south Hillsborough County, and Town N Country.
