A new poll may give Gov. Rick Scott something to cheer about this week.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday found nearly 60 percent of Floridians said the Sunshine State’s economy was in good shape. The survey found 52 percent of voters surveyed stated that they would describe the state’s economy as “good;” while 5 percent said the state of the economy was “excellent.”

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,051 Florida voters using live interviews on cell phones and landlines from April 27 through May 8. The survey has a margin of error of 3 percent.

The study found 62 percent of Republicans and 41 percent of Democrats described the state of the economy as good. Nine percent of Republicans described it as excellent; while 11 percent of Democrats described it as “poor.”

When asked whether the economy was improving, 34 percent of Floridians polled said it was getting better; while 11 percent said it was getting worse. More than half (53 percent) of those polled said the economy was staying the same.

Nearly half (47%) of Floridians said they were better off financially than they were a year ago. The survey found 28 percent said they were worse off; while 24 percent said they were the same.

The survey found 78 percent of millennials — those between the ages of 18 and 34 — feel they were better off now than a year ago.

The news could come as welcome news to Scott, who has spent the bulk of his time in the governor’s mansion lobbying for more jobs. Last week, the Naples Republican was in California trying to convince businesses to move to Florida.
