Melissa Nelson scores NRA, Unified Sportsmen of Florida endorsement in state attorney race

Melissa Nelson

“Your pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-Second Amendment, pro-Freedom positions have earned our endorsement and our gratitude.”

Via a letter full of praise along those lines, Melissa Nelson scored a major endorsement in her Republican primary race for 4th Circuit state attorney Wednesday, when the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund and the Unified Sportsmen of Florida joined forces to endorse Nelson over the incumbent, Angela Corey.

These endorsements, coupled with an A rating from the NRA and a “pro-gun” designation by the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, will burnish Nelson’s conservative credentials as she makes her case to 4th Circuit primary voters.

The endorsement letter was signed by Marion Hammer, past president of the NRA and current executive director of the Unified Sportsmen of Florida. It lauds Nelson for her support for upholding the Constitution, her support for the entire Bill of Rights (including the Second Amendment), and the rule of law.

Going further, Hammer credits Nelson with recognizing “the importance of maintaining the presumption of innocence, protecting the innocent, and seeking justice while prosecuting crime,” and for being committed to the right of self-defense.

“I am humbled to have the support of the men and women of the NRA and Unified Sportsmen of Florida,” said Nelson. “Like them, I am committed to defending our constitutional liberties and upholding the rule of law.”

Nelson, a Rick Scott appointee to the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission in 2011, is emerging as a plausible conservative alternative to Angela Corey in the state attorney race.
