When T.S. Eliot said “April is the cruelest month,” he likely didn’t have Matt Shirk‘s fundraising in mind — but the maxim applies nonetheless.
The 4th Circuit public defender brought in just $1,800 in April, with no notable donors in the mix for the Jacksonville Republican.
Shirk has brought in $26,975 during his re-election campaign, and has $25,665.80 on hand. He isn’t spending much in this campaign, which so far has been memorable mostly for the entirely coincidental emergence of a write-in candidate, Roland Falcon, to close the primary to Democrats and independent voters.
Shirk’s opponent, Charles Cofer, won the fundraising battle yet again in April.
New money totaling $19,235 pushed Cofer’s total to $104,620. Combined with a $7,000 personal loan, Cofer has almost $91,000 on hand.
Among Cofer’s donors in April is J.B. Coxwell Contracting, a company that backs more winners than losers historically.
