Rep. Tom Rooney has received enough signatures to secure a spot on the ballot.
Rooney announced Monday he had received enough verified signatures to qualify for the Congressional District 17 race. The Okeechobee Republican is running for re-election, and said he was “honored and humbled” by the support.
“I’m honored and humbled to qualify by signatures to appear on the ballot and again represent the people of Florida’s 17th district,” said Rooney in a statement Monday. “I am deeply grateful for the strong, grassroots support we have garnered over the years and feel privileged to have the confidence of my community. This sends a message that our campaign has the positive momentum we need to win in November and work with other Republicans to get America back on track.”
State records show Rooney received 3,706 verified signatures. He needed 2,298 to qualify.
The official qualifying period for congressional races runs from noon on June 20 until noon on June 24.
