Rebecca Smith can add former Gov. Bob Martinez to her list of backers.

Smith announced Tuesday that Martinez and his wife, Mary Jane Martinez, have endorsed the Tampa Republican in her House District 60 campaign. In a joint statement Tuesday, the couple said Smith “has the right experience to represent us in Tallahassee.”

“We support businesswoman Rebecca Smith for the House of Representatives,” they said in a statement. “Rebecca owns and runs a successful construction business, is engaged with community organizations and is active in government affairs.”

Smith said she was “honored and humbled to have the support and endorsement” of the former governor and his wife.

“Gov. Martinez well served first our city as Mayor and then our state as governor,” she said in a statement. “He and Mary Jane have led our community by example, and I am deeply grateful to have their support in this campaign.”

Martinez, a Tampa native, served as governor from 1987 until 1991.

Smith is the founder of A.D. Morgan Corp. and is a member of the Tampa-Hillsborough Expressway Authority. She faces Jackie Toledo in the Republican primary.

Democrat David Singer and no party candidate John Lingelbach have also filed to run in HD 60.
