Chauncey Goss is running for Congress.

The Sanibel Island Republican announced he will run for the Congressional District 19 seat being vacated by Rep. Curt Clawson.

In a statement Thursday night, Goss said he is running because he is “deeply disappointed by the status quo in Washington, D.C.”

“Southwest Florida deserves dynamic leadership and honest representation that is willing to fight the status quo,” he said in a statement on Twitter. “I am grateful to Congressman Clawson for the amount of time and energy he has put into representing Southwest Florida. He is known as a hard worker and a straight shooter in battling Washington’s special interests. I look forward to picking up that mantle.”
