Wenda Lewis has received enough signatures to secure a spot on the ballot.
Lewis announced Monday she has received enough verified signatures to qualify in House District 21. Lewis said she was “extremely grateful” for the help of her volunteers during the petition process.
“We collected over 1,750 petitions — well over the required amount — during past two months and this shows our message of Tallahassee needs more family business owners who know how to fight burdensome regulations, balance a budget, and understand the pressures of making a payroll is resonating with voters,” said Lewis in a statement. “This campaign is not going to take its foot off the gas because Tallahassee has enough lawyers and government bureaucrats. The people of District 21 deserve a representative that can overcome obstacles — by breaking through barriers if needed — in order to fight for them.”
As of Friday, state records show Lewis, an Alachua Republican, received 1,083 verified signatures. She needed 1,068 to get on the ballot.
Lewis faces Timothy Manning Rogers and Charles Wesley Clemons Sr. in the Aug. 30 Republican primary. Marihelen Haddock Wheeler, a Democrat, has also filed to run for the office.
The official qualifying period for state legislative races runs from noon on June 20 until noon on June 24.
