Debbie Wasserman Schultz has received enough signatures to secure a spot on the ballot.
Wasserman Schultz, a Weston Democrat, announced Tuesday she has received enough verified signatures to qualify for re-election in Congressional District 23. Wasserman Schultz said she was “grateful for the trust voters in the district have placed” in her over the years.
“I am also humbled by the quick and overwhelming level of support we are receiving. We collected enough petitions to qualify in less than one week from when we began and the petitions are still pouring in,” she said in a statement. “In fact, in two weeks’ time, we have received more than 10,000 petitions from supporters who live in the district. I am truly grateful for their support.”
Wasserman Schultz has represented CD 23 since 2004. She faces Democrat Tim Canova in the Aug. 30 Democratic primary.
State records show Wasserman Schultz received 2,453 verified signatures as of May 17. She needed 2,298 to qualify.
The official qualifying period for congressional races runs from noon on June 20 until noon on June 24.
