Tampa attorney David Singer, running for the open House District 60 seat being vacated by Republican Dana Young later this month, announced Thursday he had raised $25,696 in May, and has raised more than $73,000 since entering the race in April.
“Our campaign is picking up momentum and I’m thrilled that we continue to receive support from so many individuals across our community,” Singer said in a statement. “Democrats, Independents and Republicans are excited about our message of thoughtful, results‐oriented leadership.”
This is Singer’s first run for individual office, though he was heavily involved in the Moving Hillsborough Forward transit referendum that lost in Hillsborough County in 2010. He’s unopposed in the Democratic primary Aug. 30.
He’ll go on to face the winner of the GOP primary between Rebecca Smith and Jackie Toledo. Smith announced on Wednesday she had raised nearly $200,000 in May for her bid for office, though a huge chunk of it came from her own bank account. Toledo has not reported her totals for the month of May as of yet.
