Irv Slosberg made it official Friday.
The Boca Raton Democrat qualified to run in Senate District 31. Slosberg will challenge Jeff Clemens in the Aug. 30 primary.
The decision marks the second time Slosberg has switched districts this month. Last week, Slosberg announced he was dropping his re-election bid to run in Senate District 29. But that decision was short-lived, and Slosberg made a last minute switch to nearby Senate District 31.
First elected to the Florida House in 2000, Slosberg served there until 2006. He was elected again 2010.
Slosberg’s decision to run for the state Senate opened up his House District 91 seat. Preliminary state records show two Democrats — his daughter, Emily Slosberg, and Kelly Skidmore — and one write-in candidate, Kelley Howell, qualified for the House District 91 race.
First elected to the Florida House in 2010, Clemens served there until 2012, when he was elected to the Florida Senate. The Lake Worth Democrat previously served as Lake Worth’s mayor.
State records show a third Democrat, Emmanuel G. Morel, also qualified for the Senate District 31 race.
Candidates had until noon Friday to qualify to be on the ballot. State elections officials said they expect all of the candidate qualifying information to be finalized by Friday evening.
