The Republican primary in Florida’s Congressional District 2 features an active money race between Neal Dunn and Mary Thomas, with Ken Sukhia behind both.
Thomas is winning the cash on hand race in the expansive district that sprawls eastward from the eastern part of Florida’s panhandle: as of June 30, she had $458,750 on hand, compared to $313,499 for Dunn and a mere $110,398 for Sukhia.
Thomas is seeing a lot of money come in from sources like the House Conservative Fund, the Senate Conservative Fund, and the Club for Growth.
She also has expanded her cash on hand compared to the previous filing at the end of March, when she had $378,700 on hand.
Dunn, meanwhile, burned through $526,982 in the same reporting period, a number offset to some degree by $187,556 in contributions and a $100,000 personal loan.
However, Dunn’s cash on hand is actually down compared to the previous filing, when he had $552,869 on hand.
What did Dunn spend over half a million dollars on? Over $300,000 went on advertising, via Mentzer Media Services, with 13 ad buys throughout the period.
Will the strategy of frontloading ad buys work? That seems to have been the bet Dunn made.
