Betsy VanderLey has won the endorsement of the political action committee of the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association in her quest to be elected to the Orange County Board of Commissioners in District 1 on the west side.
The endorsement comes from an organization that represents almost 80 percent of the 118,000 lodging rooms in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, and more than 500 related organizations and businesses, and employs thousands of people and serves millions of visitors in Orange County.
“With the CFHLA-PAC endorsement of Betsy VanderLey for Orange County Commission District 1, CFHLA stands ready to work with Betsy once elected to the Orange County Commission. CFHLA is fully confident in Betsy’s business acumen and support of Central Florida’s Hospitality Industry.” CFHLA President Rich Maladecki stated in a news release issued by VanderLey’s campaign.
VanderLey, of Oakland, is in a tight race with Bobby Olszewski of Winter Garden for the commission seat being vacated by Scott Boyd.
VanderLey’s first job as a teenager was in the hospitality industry, which makes this endorsement particularly meaningful to her, according to the release. She noted District 1 is home to Walt Disney World area, many of the region’s hotels, and many of the people working in the industry.
“We are fortunate to have such a vibrant industry creating jobs in our area. I look forward to working with this industry to grow their businesses and help them navigate whatever the future holds.“ she stated in the release.
