The last time supporters of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio gathered in Tallahassee it was to “bring the family together” in advance of Super Tuesday and update supporters on how they could help the then-presidential candidate’s White House bid. That was before Donald Trump won the Florida primary and dashed Rubio’s hopes — for now — of moving to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Many of the same Capital City supporters are now working to re-elect Rubio to the U.S. Senate and they’ve scheduled a major fundraiser Aug. 22 to raise money for what is expected to be a fiercely fought general election campaign.
Rubio is expected to breeze by Manatee developer Carlos Beruff in the GOP primary. From there, he faces the winner of the Alan Grayson versus Patrick Murphy Democratic primary.
Among the bold-faced names on the host committee are lobbyists Nick Iarossi, Brian Ballard, Sean Stafford, and Scott Ross.
The event will be a luncheon at the Governors Club with host committee members asked to raise $5,400.
