As of the end of Tuesday, Republican voting for the Aug. 30 primary was at 12 percent, with 25,999 of the 215,025 members of the GOP voting.
Reasons for that Republican turnout could include enthusiasm for congressional candidates, or perhaps a desire to vote in the state attorney’s race.
As has been the case through early voting, Democratic turnout has lagged behind the Republicans.
Only 21,124 Democrats have voted, of the 230,529 registered, a relatively anemic 9.16 percent.
Of the 120,124 NPAs, 4,514 have voted, a bloc likely motivated primarily by County Referendum 1, which would extend the current half-cent sales tax until 2060, in order to provide guaranteed revenue for the city’s $2.8 billion unfunded pension liability.
