Herman Cain fundraiser set for CD 5 Republican Glo Smith

Glo Smith

While some Northeast Florida Republicans may be just fine supporting Democrat Al Lawson in the race in Florida’s 5th Congressional District, Republican Glo Smith is running … and attracting national firepower in support.

On Sept. 24, Glo Smith’s campaign promises “An Evening with Herman Cain.”

The location for the CD 5 Republican’s event is still being determined.

Cain, a former Republican presidential candidate, is a national figure now on talk radio, with over 120 affiliates for his program.

Though Jacksonville Republicans backed Lawson over Corrine Brown in the Democratic primary, they may be compelled to toe the party line against the Democratic candidate ahead of November.

Clearly, at least one national Republican sees this as a traditional Republican/Democrat race, despite Lawson being a Blue Dog.

Smith has faced a finance deficit thus far in the campaign. Her last accounting of cash-on-hand, from July, showed her at $3,315. Lawson, as of the “pre-primary” filing, had over $120,000 on hand.
