Florida Department of Transportation teams have been working to clear debris, install generators and assess the roads and bridges in Leon County.
Gov. Rick Scott detailed FDOT’s recovery efforts Monday, saying crews have been working non-stop since Friday in Leon County. In a news release from the Governor’s Office, Scott said FDOT crews have cleared debris, like downed trees and fallen limbs; installed 200 generators to support the operation of traffic lights; and perform bridge and road assessments.
The update comes one day after the city of Tallahassee accepted Scott’s offer for additional contractors to help the city restore power. The companies, the Governor’s Office said, are working with FDOT personnel to remove downed trees, fallen limbs and other debris.
The contractors began work today and are being paid for by state funds, according to the Governor’s Office.
Crews are making progress on restoration efforts and clearing debris, with several neighborhoods expected to be cleared by the end of the day.
