The Democratic primary election in House District 14 revealed, again, that nominee Kim Daniels operates by a different set of political rules than more traditional candidates.
The nationally-known evangelist fronted her campaign $65,000 during the primary period, then refunded almost $30,000 of it once she realized she wouldn’t need it for Aug. 30.
Now, in a general election clash with Republican Chris Whitfield, Daniels is raising money again.
Though not much of it.
Daniels raised $2,000 between Sept. 3 and 16, with $500 from Teco Energy, $500 from the Pittman Law Group of Tallahassee, and $1,000 from the Florida Standing United PC.
The Jacksonville preacher also put in $2,000 of her own money.
During the same period, Daniels spent just over $4,300.
$2,500 went on media services; of the rest of the spend, the most interesting expenditure was comparatively picayune: $150 to Friends of Ken Jefferson for “marketing services.”
Jefferson, a former sheriff’s candidate, isn’t the first person most think of when it comes to marketing services.
But maybe his friends are.
All told, Daniels has $1,005 in her campaign account.
Whitfield, as of Friday afternoon, has yet to file the report covering the first general election period.
As of Sept. 2, however, he had $342 on hand.
