Tampa Republican Dana Young is the choice of both the Hillsborough County Firefighters, Local 2294 and Tampa Firefighters, Local 754, her campaign announced today.

“Hillsborough County Firefighters proudly endorse Dana Young in her bid for the Florida Senate, District 18,” said Derrik Ryan, president, and Ken Forward, vice president of Hillsborough County Firefighters, Local 2294, in their endorsement letter. “Mrs. Young is a proven leader and has held several leadership positions after demonstrating her ability of bringing people together in a collegial fashion. Hillsborough Firefighters are asking our community to support leaders that make our communities safer, let’s elect Dana Young to the Florida Senate, District 18.”

“We as representatives of Tampa Firefighters, Local 754, take great pleasure in endorsing your candidacy for 2016 Florida State Senate, District 18,” added Stephen Suarez, president, and Bill Townsend, secretary and treasurer of Tampa Firefighters, Local 754, in their endorsement letter.

“First responders, like our firefighters, put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety of our community,” said Young in a statement issued on Monday. “I cannot thank these men and women enough for their tireless service to our Tampa Bay community, and I sincerely appreciate their support and endorsement. If elected, I pledge to continue to represent their best interests and fight for their protection, just as they have done for us.”

Young is running against Tampa Democrat Bob Buesing in the newly created state Senate District 18 seat this November. It’s evolved into the most competitive race that she’s encountered since her first campaign for her race for political office in 2010, when she defeated the late Stacy Frank to win the House District 60 seat she’s occupied ever since.
