As of now, a potential Category 4 hurricane churning northward in the Atlantic won’t keep four Congressional District 4 candidates from a “meet and greet” Wednesday night in Jacksonville Beach.
The Beaches Watch forum, to be held at 7 p.m. at the Beaches Museum Chapel, hosts Republican John Rutherford, Democrat Dave Bruderly, NPA perennial Gary Koniz, and write-in candidate Danny Murphy.
Rutherford, a former Jacksonville sheriff who emerged from a crowded and contentious primary, is generally regarded as the frontrunner in the heavily GOP district.
Bruderly, who recently moved to Jacksonville from the Gainesville area — where he also ran for Congress as a Democrat in a heavily Republican district — is an environmental engineer by trade.
Koniz, who purports on a webpage to represent the Independent Workers Party, is an interesting figure who has a habit of sending lengthy emails to public officials.
These emails are replete with non-standard capitalization, as typified by his description of himself on his webpage: “He is currently involved with many of the great Humanitarian and Social Struggles of our day and with troubleshooting the developing crises concerns of state as they affect us imperatively in the context of our Society and within the realm of our ambition and ability as a People Politically to resolve.”
As well, Koniz brings a unique value add to the race —working with TV actor Larry Hagman.
“The Candidate also did extensive coaching and air-time psychology work as well as providing literary contributions with the Actor Larry Hagman for many years as a contributing commentator and was instrumental in organizing the final episode of ‘Dallas,’ entitled, ‘The Dallas Reunion,’ in psychological resolution to the tragic (apparent suicide) ending of the show in relief to his grief stricken fans,” Koniz notes.
Finally, FloridaPolitics.com has had the pleasure of interviewing Danny Murphy (pictured above) previously.
Murphy, whose slogan is “make America laugh again,” hopes his participation in this race leads to speaking gigs.
If elected, Murphy vows to demand a recount.
As of this writing, no televised debate is planned for these candidates.
