The Florida Democratic Party is taking a swipe at Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla in new advertisement launching this week.

The ad — a 30-second spot called “Delivers” — focuses on Diaz de la Portilla’s time as a lobbyist, as well as a decision to support a tax break to allow Donald Trump to hold the Miss Universe pageant in Miami Beach, according to the Florida Democrats.

“Miguel Diaz de la Portilla has proven throughout his long career as a politician that he can be counted on to put the needs of big special interests and wealthy businessmen like Donald Trump ahead of the needs of taxpayers,” said Anders Cory, the communications director for House and Senate Victory, the group aimed at getting Democrats elected to the state Legislature. “The people of Miami deserve a real leader like Jose Javier Rodriguez who will stand up for our public schools, stop tax giveaways to wealthy businessmen like Donald Trump, and fight to keep property insurance rates low for homeowners.”

Diaz de la Portilla faces Democrat Rodriguez in Senate District 37.

The Florida Democrats have been running ads backing Rodriguez for weeks. The state party launched its first 30-second spot in August, which featured Rodriguez talking about his commitment to the people of Miami.

The new ad is set to begin airing this week.
