Jacksonville Rep. Jay Fant is leaving nothing to chance in his HD 15 re-election campaign against a write-in candidate, fundraising until the end.
Fant had a staggering $70,000 ad buy in October for his campaign against an unknown opponent.
That ad buy depleted his campaign account. Yet, as hope springs eternal, so does fundraising capacity for a GOP incumbent.
His final campaign finance report of the 2016 cycle showed one last fundraising push, with $3,000 of new money coming in Oct. 28.
Among the donors: Tenet Health, TECO Energy, the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants, the West Central Florida Chamber Alliance, and Lykes Brothers.
All told, Fant raised $96,700 and spent $91,524 during his campaign, which seemed designed to enhance his name ID for the future as much as anything else.
Fant has been expanding his regional profile, including a speaking slot at Thursday’s Donald Trump rally.
Among the insights Fant offered at the event: “The last eight years have been rough. I don’t know about you, but I watch the television and see what’s happened to our civil rights, and that really bothers me.”
“Yes, we have Bibles and we take them to church every Sunday. And we sure know how to defend ourselves,” Fant added, asserting that “the time for action is now.”
