Republican State Rep. Rene Plasencia switched districts and won again Tuesday, in Orlando-based House District 50.

Plasencia, a high school teacher and track coach, defeated Democrat Sean Ashby, also a teacher and track coach at a rival high school, 47 percent to 43 percent.

Plasencia, who lost the Brevard County portion of the district in the Republican primary, did much better there in the general election, beating Ashby both there and in Orange County.

Plasencia was first elected in neighboring House District 49, but switched to 50 this time.
